This could be for many reasons, and I am speculating when I comment on this, but since you can do only up to 240 characters per tweet, most people aren’t giving out a lot of personal information.
With social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, people are posting photos of their children, personal life events, and more, so it makes since to make those pages private. That also means it is harder to get public information about them.
In the same way, people also aren’t jumping to Twitter to follow their friends. It is a completely different type of social media. While most people go to Instagram to engage in personal photos, people are going to Twitter to engage with businesses and celebrities.
This is a huge benefit for you if you are a business or a blogger.
One of the greatest benefits of Twitter for business is that it gives a wealth of knowledge about your audience, and you can access it all without paying a dime for it.
For this reason alone you should consider trying out Twitter, but let’s dive into how you can use that information.
2. You can learn what your audience truly thinks of you with the advanced search.
The advanced search on Twitter is a goldmine of information and is one of the under-utilized benefits of Twitter for business. It is easiest to access this via desktop.
If you type anything into the search bar and then hit enter, the below picture will pop up in your top right-hand corner. From there, click on “Advanced Search”.
Once you click on Advanced Search, you get a plethora of options. The image below just shows a few of them before you continue to scroll down.
Not everyone is going to mention you or tag you in everything. So by using the advanced search, you can find out what everyone on Twitter says about you. You can even use a date range to compare how often you were mentioned from one quarter to the next, or one year to the next.
3. You can find potential customers easily without automated tools.
In the same way that the Advanced Search can help you with what your community thinks about your brand or a product you have, you can also use this tool to find potential customers.
For example, I am a social media manager that works specifically with Christian businesses and ministries. I can look for potential clients by typing in social media help.
However, I don’t want to find other social media managers, I want to find my customers, so I can type in to avoid “www” or “.com”, which means I avoid any social media managers trying to promote their website.
You can do the same thing too!
If you are a blogger, you can type in different categories in your website and connect with those who are talking about what you write about. Then, if you engage with those people, you will be finding your potential customers when you launch a product.
If you are a business, you can find people that need your expertise and engage with those people. It is a great way to build brand awareness to the people that need you the most.

Social media is changing all the time. Let’s face it though- lately it has been harder than ever to grow communities online without dishing out loads of money.
It is definitely worth spending money if you have a strategic way to do so, but if you are just getting started or don’t have that budget yet, then Twitter is a great starting point.
Instagram has tightened up the rules even more when it comes to following and engaging with people. They want businesses to pay to advertise.
Before we get angry though, Instagram is a business and they have a right to do so. Even if you are a starting blogger or business you are a business that wants to use Instagram to advertise.
In traditional brick-and-mortar businesses, there are few ways to advertise for free, so it is not surprising that it is the same way for online businesses.

Do you have a nonprofit? Find potential donors by targeting specific people on your Tweetdeck and engage with them.
Twitter can be a fast-paced and busy place. Yet if you engage in real-time with the people that are on Twitter at the exact time as you, it limits the noise and helps you strategically find the people you need.

A lot of people that are on Twitter are obsessed with Twitter. You will see tweets flying around often about how and why people love Twitter over other social media. This means your Twitter community can easily become a devoted community.
This means a couple of things for you:
- If you create a specific opt-in or discount exclusively for your Twitter community, they will know that you understand the value of your Twitter customers.
